A Promise for Change: Hon’ble Minister Shri Nitin Gadkari Ji Assures Immediate Action
Today marks a significant milestone in our collective struggle for better living and study conditions for UPSC aspirants in Old Rajinder Nagar. On 31st July 2025, a delegation of students under INSAF (Initiative for Student Awareness & Fairness) had the privilege of meeting Hon’ble Union Minister Shri Nitin Gadkari Ji to present our long-pending grievances.
The meeting, which lasted for over 45 minutes, was highly productive, with the Hon’ble Minister giving us a patient hearing and issuing on-the-spot directives to address our concerns.
Key Issues Raised & Minister’s Assurance
1. Civic Infrastructure & Safety
- Issue: Severe waterlogging, incomplete road repairs, and lack of clean drinking water.
- Minister’s Response:
- “I have directed the concerned agencies to complete all pending road works within 60 days.”
- “A special drainage overhaul project will be initiated to prevent waterlogging.”
- *”Municipal authorities will ensure 24×7 water supply in student-dominated areas.”*
2. Exploitative Rent & Housing Crisis
- Issue: Unregulated rent hikes, poor living conditions in PGs/hostels.
- Minister’s Response:
- “The Delhi Rent Control Act will be strictly enforced to prevent arbitrary rent increases.”
- “A proposal for affordable government hostels for students will be expedited.”
3. Coaching Center Regulations & Food Safety
- Issue: Non-compliance with the Coaching Centers (Regulation) Act, 2023, and unhygienic mess food.
- Minister’s Response:
- “Surprise inspections will be conducted to ensure coaching centers follow guidelines on fees, faculty, and facilities.”
- “FSSAI will increase checks on local messes and eateries.”
4. Demand for a Central Library & Study Spaces
- Issue: Lack of adequate study spaces for serious aspirants.
- Minister’s Response:
- *”A 24/7 Central Library with 500+ seating capacity will be established in Old Rajinder Nagar within 6 months.”*
